Today at the Carnegie Mellon University campus in Pittsburgh, I joined Senator Dave McCormick, Governor Josh Shapiro, the President, and fellow tech CEOs at Pennsylvania’s first Energy & Innovation Summit to announce a major step forward for CoreWeave and for the future of AI in the US.
Pennsylvania has all the right qualities to be an AI hub for the entire Mid-Atlantic region–the densest area of our country with over 60 million Americans stretching from New York to Virginia. The Commonwealth has a wealth of talent, industry, resources, and inertia to open more economic opportunities for workers and businesses. That’s why CoreWeave is committing an initial $6 billion to equip a new, state-of-the-art data center outside of Philadelphia in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, purpose-built to power the most cutting-edge AI workloads.
The AI race depends on infrastructure.
The US is in a great spot. We have an unmatched culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. We have an investment pool ready to bet on the best ideas. What we lack is enough compute capable of training and running the next generation of AI models. CoreWeave is leading the way to build that layer, delivering high-performance AI compute where it’s needed most.
But this investment is not just about cloud capacity, it’s about activating the region's economic potential by establishing a true AI ecosystem. This project will create over 600 local construction jobs and at least 75 operational jobs once it’s live, with the expectation for headcount to increase to upwards of 175 as we expand the facility.
With room to grow up to 300 MW, our cloud facility in Lancaster will be one of the largest AI data centers in the region. That is the scale necessary for AI development to take a leap forward. We see tremendous demand in the Mid-Atlantic and this footprint is just the start for CoreWeave. The Lancaster site will join our global network of 33 and rising global data centers, 28 of which are strategically located across the US in the most important markets.
This is a milestone moment, not just for CoreWeave but for US AI competitiveness. The AI cloud buildout is an effort that demands public-private partnership, and we are grateful that leaders across the aisle are working together to accelerate our industry. This is the infrastructure that will power the future.
